In some of the stranger comments to come out of Thierry Henry, the Arsenal legend described Jack Wilshere as a special little man.

Following the midfielder’s return to first team football against Manchester City, Henry was full of praise for the 24-year-old, insisting that England manager, Roy Hodgson, simply must take Jack to the Euros.

“Roy Hodgson names his squad on Thursday and I am sure he has a plan for Jack. If he is fully fit, you have to take Jack to France,” Henry wrote for The Sun.

“Hodgson knows he is going to upset some players but Wilshere was a key asset in the qualifying campaign.

“The little man is special. You have to treat him in a special way.”

At a risk of being lynched by the Goonerverse, I’m not sure why everyone is so hell-bent on Wilshere going to the Euros. Once upon a time, I would have agreed but he’s been out of action for so long (an entire season), how can anyone really tell what type of play he is anymore? Against City he was rusty, which is to be expected, this should go without saying. There were flashes of his old self, both good and bad, but it was difficult to tell.

Would it be worth taking the midfielder and leaving someone at home, knowing that he could well end up injured without a week?

Let it be known that I do think Roy should take him but let’s just say I don’t know whether that’s down to my Gooner bias or actual judgement.
