Reports in Spain are claiming that Barcelona are considering buying Denis Suarez back for €3m and then selling him on to Arsenal or Tottenham (or Napoli) for €20m.

In what seems to have become this year’s must-have transfer plan, Real Madrid’s master plan of buying back Alvaro Morata for the €30m buy-back option they included when they sold him, only to sell him on, has turned football clubs into properly flippers and Barca are said to be considering following suit.

It’s not overly clear how real the Arsenal interest is in Villarreal’s Suarez but as everything becomes more about money with each passing month, it’s not crazy in the slightest to think Barca might want to pocket €17m for a player they probably have absolutely no real interest in using long-term.

Suarez’s reps have been in talks with the Catalan giants as he tries to get assurances that, should they buy him, he wouldn’t be plopped on the bench or back with the B team where he spent two years before moving on (one of which was on loan, the other with the B side).

There are certainly mixed messages coming out of Barcelona regarding all of this, with some saying they actually do want him as part of the first team. Luis Enrique reportedly wants him to play on the left but the temptation to cash in might just be too great for the club’s board.

That being said, could they be looking for a Neymar replacement? This sort of money would make €17m look like small change:

Whatever happens, this all sounds like something Arsenal should really want no part of as the player seems to hanker over a return to his former club, and we all know what happens when you have a player like that.

Speaking while on international duty this week, he was asked about Barca’s interest and said

“Now I’m a week with the Spanish team and when [I’m] finished this week [I] will decide about my future.

“I will sit with my representative, with Barcelona and Villarreal and see where I am next season.”
