Olivier Giroud netted Arsenal’s 37th Premier League hat-trick – more than anyone else in the League.

Giroud hasn’t had the easiest season. It’s been up and down but when a striker has such a long dry spell, it’s not good. Fortunately, the Frenchman came good against Aston Villa and scored a hat-trick, which, along with Mikel Arteta’s goal in stoppage time, meant we won 4-0. Thanks to Spurs’ 5-1 loss to Newcastle (haha), we finished second, despite having a nightmare second half to the season.

The fact that we’ve bagged so many hat-tricks doesn’t just show we are more than capable of scoring when we put our minds to it but we have so many players of such quality that they constantly find themselves in the right positions. Of course, from another perspective, it also shows how hot and cold we blow but that’s an argument for a different day.

What Giroud’s performance showed is that although we shouldn’t be relying on him as our number one striker, we shouldn’t sell him.
