The BBC’s David Ornstein has confirmed that an agreement between Arsenal and Borussia Monchengladbach for midfielder Granit Xhaka has been met.

The deal, thought to be worth £30m, is thought to be in its final stages with the 23-year-old’s medical set to be completed over the weekend.

Although we’ve been linked heavily with the Bundesliga man for a number of weeks now, I’m not sure anyone actually thought we were going to sign him. However, within the past few days the rumour mill has gone into overdrive: talk of a bid, Xhaka traveling to London, the player liking pictures on Instagram of Arsenal shirts… everything has pointed firmly in the direction of us completing our first signing of the transfer window very soon.

If we don’t manage to screw this one up, this is a great bit of business. Xhaka’s a player that will help strengthen the team, who we’ll be signing before the Euros – nice and early. Very exciting.
