As expected, Mesut Özil has been called up to the Germany squad for Euro 2016.

After an incredibly drawn out press conference (the squad was announced over 45 minutes after the ‘event’ begun), the world champions named an incredibly strong squad, with Özil considered one of the leading players.

In qualifying for the tournament Özil played 90 minutes in each of Germany’s last six matches, assisting five times in five wins as Joachim Löw’s side confirmed their place in France for this summer.

Last time out, he scored his 19th goal for Germany in his 72nd appearance for his country.

Playing at Euro 2016, Özil will be making it four consecutive tournament appearances. So far he has three goals and seven assists in 19 tournament matches for the national team, who are one of the big favourites this summer.

Seen as a key man by Löw, Özil may have to play out wide in order to regularly feature. With the final taking place on the 10th July, around a month before the new Premier League season begins, we can probably expect Özil to miss the start of the campaign.

Incredibly, Lukas Podolski is still being called up by Joachim Löw, who many fans would like to see at Arsenal one day. Hmm.
