After narrowly missing out on the Premier League record for assists in a single season, one would forgive Mesut Özil for being a little fed up with his teammates.

The German was on 16 assists in the league after just 18 appearances and then 18 assists from 25 appearances.

Though he continued to make chances, Arsenal didn’t take them. Setting up Olivier Giroud on the final day of the season, Özil finally made it to 19 assists, one shy of Thierry Henry’s record.

Apparently he isn’t best pleased, liking the picture below on Instagram certainly seems like a sly dig at Olivier Giroud.

We’re sure Mesut, who always comes across as a very polite and humble guy, didn’t mean it maliciously.

Giroud top scored for Arsenal with 24 goals last season, including a final day hat-trick against Aston Villa, but his position is considered one where Arsenal could make huge steps.

Whether or not a striker capable of usurping the Frenchman is available this summer remains to be seen but the club appear to be on the lookout, hence links with the likes of Alvaro Morata.

Maybe Özil would prefer to play with him.
