Germany manager Joachim Low surprised no-one with the inclusion of Mesut Ozil in his squad for the Euros but he did offer a few other surprises.

In a decision that not many can fathom, he has included Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger in the squad that will travel to France.

Marco Reus will no doubt be devastated to miss out on yet another tournament after injury rules him out.

In total, four players dropped out of the provisional 27-man squad: Karim Bellarabi, Julian Brandt (both Bayer Leverkusen), Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund) and Sebastian Rudy (TSG Hoffenheim).

Mesut Ozil did not feature for the Germans when they played (and lost) against Slovakia but speaking to the German national team website, Ozil revealed he was simply rested after a long season for Arsenal.

“I played a lot of games for Arsenal,” Ozil said. “Consequently, the head coach allowed me to use the first few days for regenerative purposes, although I’m still taking part in team training.”
