Arsenal have reportedly bid a club-record £45.8m for Alvaro Morata, the Juventus striker who is set to move this summer.

That all sounds nice, right?

Only there are a few problems.

Real Madrid are widely expected to use the €30m buy-back clause they had inserted in Morata’s deal when he moved from Spain to Italy, but they can only do that between June 1st and June 15th this year and next.

Given that it’s only 25th May, who have Arsenal submitted the bid to?

It would seem strange that they would offer it to Real Madrid who don’t yet own the player and it’s unlikely Juve are able to accept bids from other clubs at this point given the clause in play when the window opens.

Arsenal’s interest in Morata seems to be very real, and it has been for a few seasons now. A number of other clubs are looking at him and who can blame them? He’s one of the hottest names on the striker list at present.

Morata is thought to favour staying in Turin but that seems unlikely to happen as Juve can’t afford the cash needed to buy him back.

It would be great to have two signings sewn up before the Euros but the Morata deal depends on how quickly Real Madrid act and how dicky they are when it comes to selling him on.

Remember Gonzalo Higuain and how that played out?

Anyway, this guy often delivers on Arsenal news, and he says we haven’t bid. That would make sense given the current situation:
