Hot on the heels of signing Granit Xhaka for about €40m, it seems Arsene Wenger’s priority now lies into signing a centre-forward.

According to L’Equipe from Saturday the 28th of May, there are two main players targeted. Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata as previously reported on the website.

The French-born Argentine contract ends in 2018 and the transfer clause on his contract is €94m, a heavy price that Arsenal would not be likely to be paying. Apparently, the player’s brother is going round Europe trying to find a buyer.

Higuain has scored 36 goals in Serie A this season and Arsene is apparently keen in signing him.

As a back-up plan Morata and Vardy are also considered. The Spanish player would be cheaper (between €50m and €60m) even though PSG, Dortmund and Chelsea are sniffing around. Vardy would be more than difficult to sign from Leicester.

L’Equipe say claim that it shows the lack of confidence at the club for Giroud despite his 16 League goals and sixth place in the golden boot race. It also implies that the manager thinks Giroud did not put strong enough performances in big games.

Giroud is under contract until 2018 and seems happy to stay at the club and fight for his place like he did in the 2015/16 season.
