Olivier Giroud was reportedly booed leaving the France national team’s hotel on Monday.

The striker, who has been the target of the French’s vitriol over displeasing results in recent seasons, was booed and heckled by his own fans.

According to L’Equipe journalist, Damien Dubris, the fans chanted that they wanted Karim Benzema to replace him after the Real Madrid man wasn’t selected. The French football federation confirmed back in April that he wouldn’t be allowed to take part due to his involvement in the recent alleged blackmail case.

“Giroud booed out of the hotel. ‘Benzema to the Euro!’ shouted supporters. It must be hard in the head of the Arsenal player.”

Where French fans’ hatred for Giroud actually stems from, I’m not sure, but I really feel for the big guy right now.
