The England women u17 have won their first game against the toughest group opponent Norway by three goals to two and therefore well placed to go through to the semi-finals.

The five Arsenal players involved in the squad all started the game. Defenders Anna Patten, Lotte Wubben-Moy, and Taylor Hinds and midfielders Laura Hooper and Anna Filbey. They all completed 90 minutes except Lotte, who was subbed in the 22nd minute due to injury.

Anna Filbey scored the winning goal in the 69th minute while Alessia Russo from Chelsea and Niamh Charles from Liverpool scored the other two England goals.

Anna Patten and Taylor Hinds are two excellent full-backs who fit the profile of the modern attacking right-back and left-back. They are pacy, good on the ball and contribute a lot on the defending and attacking side. I would not be surprised at all, if not in 2017, if they are around the first team squad giving a run for their money to Alex Scott and Emma Mitchell.

Lotte Wubben-Moy is a top quality centre-back with first team experience, having played four times last season with the senior team despite being a u16 player at the time. She has played most of the games for the development squad as the first team already has four quality centre-backs.

Laura Hooper is a typical box-to-box midfielder and captains the Arsenal ladies u17 side. She is very similar to Frank Lampard in term of style and should be playing next season for the development team. Her chances to play in the first team will probably be limited as Jordan Nobbs and Leah Williamson are the main players in her position.

Anna Filbey is a goalscoring attacking midfielder who like to shoot and score from a long range. She is a creative player and has played four times for the development team this season and scored six goals. She should be playing for the development team next season, but like Laura Hooper might find it difficult to break into the first team squad with players like Losada and Van De Donk playing in the same position.

England’s second group game in the tournament will be played on Saturday against the host nation Belarus, who have lost their opener to Serbia by five goals to one. A win would see them close to go through to the semi-finals.
