French defender Mathieu Debuchy has been ruled out of Euro 2016 with a thigh injury just hours before Didier Deschamps names his France squad.

The right-back left Arsenal for Bordeaux in January, joining the Ligue 1 club on loan until the end of the season after finding Héctor Bellerín the clear first choice in north London.

More regular football has helped his cause for the national team. Debuchy has played nine times while on loan (and missed five games through injury) and was expected to be named in Deschamps’ squad on Thursday evening.

Playing more often was what he needed and he actively seeked a move to get minutes on the pitch. It appeared to have paid off but Debuchy has suffered a thigh injury and is out for weeks.

It rules him out of a tournament he’s worked hard to get to and must come as a pretty devastating blow.

Debuchy will presumably return to Arsenal for the start of pre-season in July but is likely to be looking for a new club with the Gunners open to offers.

After working hard to get a loan move and then performing well enough to be considered by Deschamps, Debuchy must be absolutely gutted.

Everyone here at Daily Cannon wishes him a speedy recovery.

Be sure to check back later on Thursday for confirmation of the France squad, with Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud expected to be called up.
