Although it was already heavily implied that the extent of Dani Carvajal’s calf injury would leave him out of Euro 2016, the tests have now concluded that this is definitely the case.

Following Spain’s 3-1 win over Bosnia on Sunday, Spain manager, Vicente del Bosque, admitted that it wasn’t looking good for the Real Madrid man, who sustained his injury in the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.

Now, after undergoing tests, Spanish publication Marca has confirmed that Carvajal’s recovery time will just be too long for the 24-year-old to make the Euros in France next month.

As awful as this is for Carvajal, it means that Hector Bellerin will travel to the tournament after only making his senior debut on Sunday against Bosnia. At only 21 years old, the right-back is bound to be thrilled with the opportunity. However, the situation will understandably be bitter-sweet, considering the circumstances.

Good luck, Hector. You’ve earned it.
