Hector Bellerin has spoken about what an honour it is to represent Spain at the Euros this summer.

The 21-year-old right-back stepped in for the injured Dani Carvajal against Bosnia on Sunday after the Real Madrid star hurt his calf in the Champions League final against Atletico.

After the 3-1 win, Spain manager, Vicente del Bosque, said that it was likely that Bellerin would travel to France for the Euros but Carvajal faced further tests. On Monday morning, the test results confirmed the worst of their suspicions and the 24-year-old was ruled out of the European tournament.

Speaking about his promotion to the senior team, Bellerin made it clear that he was incredibly pleased.

“I’m here until the coach tells me otherwise,” he said.

“I’ve been with national teams since I was a kid, so for me it’s an honour.”

In a situation such as this, it’s obviously hard for the youngster to really show how happy he is, considering he’s got his place in the senior squad because his compatriot got injured. However, he should be really proud.
