With Hector Bellerin receiving his call up to the Spain Euro squad after Dani Carvajal was ruled out because of the injury he picked up in the Champions League final, it looks as if the speculation linking the youngster with a return to Spain won’t be settling down any time soon.

Hector has repeatedly stressed his happiness at Arsenal and that he has no desire to return to the club he spent eight years with as a kid, but we all know how these things go.

Unless Arsenal start seriously dominating, ‘Ector will be gone in few season.

It’s sad, but it’s the reality of what happens when Barca come knocking.

Speaking to El Pais, Hector revealed that he sees himself as a product of both clubs. He was asked if he felt more one than the other and replied “I think [it’s] a mixture. I spent eight years at the club and been six at Arsenal. I learned a lot playing for the Gunners but the [defensive] base I received in Barcelona you can’t buy, how to train, the idea… Defensive bases are very English. I guess I notice in the game that I have gone through those two teams.”

He was also asked if he was really faster than Usain Bolt over 40 metres. He says he is.

“At 40 metres, yes, but I do not know … Well, if I work a lot at Arsenal, with a specific plan in the gym to strengthen my legs, win power and that … It is important to have speedy side.”

It’s certainly going to be exciting to watch Hector on such a huge stage. That will, of course, be offset by the constant Barca speculation.

Sigh.
