Mikel Arteta has revealed that he, along with the Arsenal squad, do have regrets over the way the 2015/16 season panned out.
Although we did come second after Spurs bottled it at the end, we believed we were destined to win it and although Leicester arguably deserve their crown, it’s frustrating to see a team we beat twice lift the trophy.
Speaking after his departure from Arsenal and potentially from playing football altogether, Arteta admitted that the team were gutted not to win the League and that they do have regrets.
“It was in our hands and the year to do it,” he said.
“We are all gutted we didn’t do it. We came up short.
“Leicester were more reliable and consistent and they deserved to win the title.
“We do have regrets because at Arsenal you have to win. You have to win trophies.”
The midfielder leaves Arsenal at the age of 34 and acknowledging that he couldn’t kid himself any longer. The Spaniard’s fitness has suffered in recent seasons but that doesn’t make his leaving any easier. He was a typical Arsenal player, full of class and style. He took a pay cut to come to us from Everton when we needed him and many will never forget that. Hopefully, this isn’t the last we’ve seen of him at the club.
