Word on the street, and by street I mean the Metro, is that Arsenal aren’t just interested in Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, we’re also looking to bring in Lucas Vazquez.

The winger has only made 25 La Liga appearances for the Madrid club this season, although he’s managed four goals and eight assists in that time. He rarely gets a full match under his belt but, considering the calibre of playing he’s competing for a place with, it stands to reason that he wouldn’t be first choice.

According to the Metro, we want to bring the Spaniard in as a replacement for the underwhelming Theo Walcott.

Looking at his stats, his goal to game ration is actually marginally worse than Walcott’s, who has scored just five goals in 28 Premier League appearances. Vazquez is scoring 0.16 goals on average per game, while Theo is scoring 0.18. Assist-wise, however, Vazquez is providing 0.32 per game, while our own winger is getting around 0.1… yeah.

Stats aren’t everything but on top of this, Walcott is now 27 and is supposed to be in his prime. If this is his prime, all speed with no end product, what hope does he have? Vasquez is only 24, he has time to learn and adapt. Not to mention, the majority of his goals and assists for Real have come in the latter stages of the season, showing improvement.

Although it might just be a rumour at the moment, he may not be a bad signing.
