Arsenal are reportedly ready to sign Ashley Williams from Swansea for the 20th time this decade as we supposedly hunt for a Per Mertesacker replacement.

The centre-back has been on our radar, if the media are to be believed, for years and apparently we’re ready to move for the 31-year-old again this summer.

The likelihood of us signing the player now is slim to none. Nothing against him, but I don’t see us actually letting Per go and although Williams isn’t awful, I fail to see what would have suddenly made us want him so badly. What’s more, is that we’re allegedly ready to pay £20m for him, which is a little steep. Although he’s Premier League ready, I don’t see us spending that much money on him.

If we were buying him as a squad player, then I’d be all for it. We need more defenders and he’s not terrible but it doesn’t seem likely.
