With the Arsenal youth set up full of exciting attacking talent, a player whose future may lay in a deeper role is one whose season has been very stop-start.

Daniel Crowley arrived from Aston Villa aged 16 with a big reputation, and has proven himself to be an inventive playmaker and dead ball expert, with great dribbling ability and weight of pass.

The first half this season saw mixed loan spell at Barnsley, where his manager, ex-Arsenal Academy graduate, Lee Johnson, described him as the best 18-year-old I’ve ever seen”, he bagged first professional goal (a smoothly taken half-volley against Everton in the League Cup), followed by an early termination at Arsenal’s behest amid rumours of fallings out and recrimination.

His main problem during his loan, the reason it ended early, and the reason it has been confirmed he will be out on loan next year, is that he is still too slight for one of his stature.

“I have spoken to the boss and he says I’m not physically ready for the Premier League just yet,” he told the Coventry Telegraph.

“That’s fair enough and I completely agree because it’s a tough league on your body and there’s so much running that people don’t realise.

“So I will work on that and hopefully be ready when my time comes. I don’t want to be pushed in and not be ready.

“When I get my chance I want to make sure I’m ready and take it.”

So while he remains a great prospect in the Santi Cazorla mould, he’s not going to be pushing for a place next season. Happily as his quotes indicate, he recognises that further development is needed, and is happy to listen when the boss preaches patience.

And it’s worth both he and us remaining patient, as he has raw ability to spare:
