Arsenal have been linked with Wolfsburg left-back, Ricardo Rodriguez.

According to Kicker, the 23-year-old is set to leave the Bundesliga club and Arsenal are in poll position to sign him. However, if true, this does make you wonder whether this is us essentially kicking Kieran Gibbs out of the club.

The full-back hasn’t had the best luck with injuries… in fact, he’s had a torrid time. This has meant his time on the pitch has been limited and although he was brought up from the academy, it’s hard to make a case for him staying.

I’m a huge fan of Gibbs and I’ll be sad to see him go. If our interest in Rodriguez is genuine, he did get a lot of time under his belt for the German team. He made 36 appearances, 33 of which were 90-minutes.

We have Nacho Monreal and he is our first choice left-back, no question. However, we do need a back-up who’s fit for more than half the season.
