During Manchester United’s end-of-season goodbyes after their 3-1 win against Bournemouth, Michael Carrick led out his children onto the pitch.

According to Manchester United code (and the Daily Mail), this is usually only done when players are truly saying goodbye to the club, which is a bit weird if you ask me but hey-ho, this is United we’re talking about.

The central midfielder knows that the Red Devils want to re-energise their squad and bring in new blood and, at the age of 35, he simply isn’t that.

Various clubs, including Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle and West Ham, where he’s already bloomin’ played, are being linked with the England international but the chances of us actually going for him are slim. For starters, we’ve just let Mikel Arteta leave, so given Carrick’s age and position, it’d be a confusing signing.

In addition, if we are going to bring in Granit Xhaka, I don’t see us spending much more time on strengthening central midfield. Once the deal for the 23-year-old is wrapped up – if it ever is because, let’s face it, we’re Arsenal – we’ll move on.
