With Per Mertesacker’s game time dropping towards the end of the season, it was only a matter of time before talk turned to his replacement should we get rid of him.

Atletico Madrid’s Lucas Hernandez is thought to be one of the candidates, along with Swansea’s Ashley Williams. The 20-year-old centre-back has notched up only 15 appearances for the La Liga team this season and, despite being decent at blocking the ball, isn’t so good at passing (only 72.5% accuracy), which is a big no-no if you’re coming to Arsenal.

Not only would this not be a good signing, considering Hernandez is in no way better than who we already have, it would be a confusing one. No one, including Arsene Wenger or the BFG himself, has even remotely suggested that the German will be going anywhere this summer. Other than having to compete for a place, which is another issue entirely considering how I rate Gabriel, there doesn’t seem to be any problems.

On another note, Mikel Arteta, our captain, has left. It doesn’t look too good if our vice-captain leaves the same summer.
