Gedion Zelalem is having a great time at Rangers; in fact, he’s in no real rush to leave.

The 19-year-old midfielder was initially only supposed to spend half a season with the Scottish club but had his loan extended to a full season, which came as a surprise to most people who thought he’d get snapped in two within a week.

The youngster has gone on to feature 23 times and bagged himself eight assists. He even scored an excellent penalty in the Old Firm Derby recently, which is huge for such a young player and will do his confidence wonders.

Speaking to STV recently, the youngster admitted that he’s having the time of his life in Scotland and would be more than happy to return once he’s spoken to ‘the gaffer’.

“Firstly I’m going to go back to pre-season with Arsenal and see how I do there,” he said.

“If it doesn’t work out there then this is another option.

“I haven’t spoken to the gaffer here yet about it but I’m sure that conversation will come up.

“This is what I wanted in football to play in these types of games and big derbies be it Arsenal v Tottenham or Rangers v Celtic.

“I’m living the dream and I hope to continue to do that.”

It’s great to see Zelalem relishing a role many of us were nervous about him taking at the beginning of the season. He’s an example of how loan spells can do a player good.
