Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere has set his sights on a place at Euro 2016 after returning to first team action on Sunday afternoon.

The midfielder made his first appearance of the season, featuring for around 10 minutes of the Gunners’ 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

It’s been a long wait for Wilshere since he suffered a hairline fracture back in August but, finally, the midfielder can fight for a place at Euro 2016 with England.

“Of course, I want to go and be involved. I feel I am ready to push for that place,” the 24-year-old said to the BBC after the game.

Wilshere had played for Arsenal u21s in recent weeks, starting all three of his appearances and twice completing 90 minutes, but first team football is imperative if he is to prove he’s ready to feature on the international stage.

“Now I am on the pitch with the first team, we have three more games left so hopefully I can get more minutes.”

Arsenal face Norwich City, Manchester City, and Aston Villa before the season is over and there’s little doubt Wilshere will have his heart set on a starting place before the final day of the season.

England manager Roy Hodgson has suggested that Wilshere will be selected regardless but seemed more reluctant to guarantee the midfielder’s involvement this week. As long as the Arsenal man is fit at the end of the season, it looks like he will win a place at the summer tournament.
