There are rumours both in Germany and England that Granit Xhaka could be on his way to Arsenal but Arsène Wenger isn’t giving anything away just yet.

There have been claims by Bild that the Swiss midfielder and his agent have already discussed a summer transfer with the Arsenal manager but SportBild have said such reports are nonsense.

Following on from the news in Germany, the Telegraph and Mirror have linked Arsenal with a move for the Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder, who has been labelled as a ‘priority’ for the Gunners this summer.

Arsène Wenger, however, has denied such reports.

“At the moment no, we are starting to look at people who can strengthen our squad but we are not on any particular case in a concrete way,” said the manager on Thursday morning.

Mohamed Elneny has impressed since signing from FC Basel, coincidentally Xhaka’s former club, in January but Arsenal will still need a midfielder in the summer. Experienced players Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini are all set to leave while the fitness of Jack Wilshere can’t be relied upon. It remains to be seen how a 31-year-old Santi Cazorla recovers from knee and Achilles issues.

It doesn’t look like the Gunners are in talks with the Bundesliga club for Xhaka just yet, and certainly not in advanced talks, but the interest would make sense.
