With Arsenal fans set to voice their displeasure on Saturday evening, Arsène Wenger was asked to talk about ‘silent’ Stan Kroenke at Friday’s press conference.

The American majority shareholder of the club rarely speaks so, honestly, fans have no idea what he’s like and what his ambitions are.

As such, Arsène Wenger was asked to tell the media about him today but seemed reluctant.

“I don’t want to go into personal comments on my owners,” Wenger said, before adding – unprompted – that there are no financial restrictions in place. “We can work with complete freedom.”

The concern is that we have no choice but to take the manager’s word for it. He’s not exactly going to leave Kroenke out to dry and we can’t prove hands are being tied or purse strings are being tightened.

Arsenal don’t rely on income from their owner, which is fine, but there is a chance he’s not allowing the club to reach its full potential.

“I believe every football club should work with the resources it generates and that’s what we do,” said Wenger. “When I speak about values that’s one of the values I speak about and we’re very proud to do that.

“The owner is very ambitious, we are all very ambitious.”

I guess this summer will show whether or not that’s the case.
