Against Watford Arsenal managed a total of 19 shots, 12 of which were on target (63%).

This is in stark contrast to how they’ve been performing recently in front of the net with their shot-to-goal ratio painfully inadequate.

In fact, prolificacy in front of goal has been cited as the main reason that Arsenal have not run away with the title this season and it’s hard to argue with that.

In the game against the Hornet’s, Alexis got all four of his shots on target, Iwobi three of his four, Bellerin one from one, Ozil one from two, Welbeck one from three, Giroud one from one, and Walcott one from one.

Only Nacho, Elneny and Coquelin had a go but missed the target with all three attempting one shot each.

They’ve clearly been practicing, something I often wonder if Arsenal are aware they are allowed to do.

It all seems a long way from these days:

For the record, Arsenal have been averaging 5.33 shots on target per game in the league this season, some 0.72 less than Leicester.

It’s not just getting them on target that has been our problem this season, but getting them past the keepers.
