Back in training, Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain could be fighting for his Arsenal future over the next few weeks.

After another hit and miss season, the England international will be hoping to get the chance to prove his worth before the season as over.

Not only is Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Arsenal future reportedly in jeopardy but, as things stand, it is doubtful he is central to Roy Hodgson’s plans as the England manager prepares to select a squad for the European Championships in France this summer.

Possibly out of favour for club and country, it’s little wonder there are reports that the midfielder will leave the Emirates Stadium this summer, the latest of which suggests he has been offered to West Ham United.

Since moving to Arsenal in 2011, Oxlade-Chamberlain really hasn’t progressed as expected. Injuries haven’t helped but it’s fair to say he has stagnated at best since a strong 2013/14 season.

Now 22, patience is wearing thin and the emergence of Alex Iwobi has only provided more competition for places out wide.

West Ham have had a strong season and, set to move to the Olympic Stadium, are a club with an ambitious future. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see them interested in Ox but would Arsenal really sell already? Theo Walcott has also had very rough patches but, at 27, is still at the club and being backed to prove his worth; why won’t Ox receive the same treatment?

Liverpool and Manchester City have also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old but the Gunners would surely be reluctant to sell to a club seen as a direct rival.

Financially, Arsenal don’t need to sell. However, the club can also invest and that could see Oxlade-Chamberlain face even more competition next season.

If so, maybe his time in north London could come to an end.
