A comfortable win for Manchester City on Saturday afternoon took the Citizens back above Arsenal to third in the Premier League.

Two goals either side of half-time comfortably saw Manuel Pellegrini’s men past Stoke City and it looks increasingly likely that Arsenal’s game at the Etihad will decide who finishes in third this season.

Fernando and Sergio Agüero netted before the break and Kelechi Iheanacho scored twice to seal a comfortable win against Stoke.

City are desperate to be in the Champions League next season with Spanish manager Pep Guardiola coming in to take over when the current campaign ends. He will not be content with a place in the Europa League.

No team comes close to Manchester City’s 45 home goals so far this season and Arsenal will probably have to win, or at least avoid defeat, there in the penultimate game of the season to finish third and avoid a Champions League play-off tie at the end of the summer.

Arsenal can go back to third on Sunday with a win against Sam Allardyce’s Sunderland. The Black Cats are fighting for Premier League survival and it’s sure to be a testing 90 minutes.
