Since breaking into the first team last month, Alex Iwobi has looked right at home and scored twice, giving us a couple of views of a new goal celebration.

The teenage midfielder grabbed a goal in each of his first two Premier League starts to help Arsenal to wins against Everton and Watford, and he has taken to celebrating in style.

“The celebration,” he said to Arsenal Player, “I don’t know where that came from, but I’m sticking with it now!”

“The best way to describe it is that it’s my number [45], and the Gunners [are] Arsenal. I was just excited and also my friends told me to do something crazy, so it was for them.”

Iwobi’s first goal, against Everton, came in his first Premier League start for Arsenal and just days after he’d been given a shock start at Camp Nou against Barcelona.

After only starting in cup games this season until that point it has been a sharp increase in first team football but the goal was the perfect start.

“I already felt at home [in the team] but that goal made me a bit more confident, made me try a few more things and made me feel a bit more relaxed so I was happy to get it,” said the Nigeria international. “That moment was crazy!

“When Hector got the ball and I saw the space, I just tried to sprint for my life.

“Thank God Hector found me, I got the ball and scored. I can’t describe the feeling.”

Though the Gunners have had a rough few months, Iwobi could be one positive to come out of the season. After those goals he added two assists in a hit and miss performance against West Ham United at the weekend as the Gunners slipped to a 3-3 draw and essentially gave up the hunt for the title.

There’s an overwhelming feeling of disappointment right now but Iwobi’s form is a silver lining. If the last month is anything to go by, there’s a lot more to come from the Arsenal youth academy graduate.
