Arsenal are in third place in the Injury League for this season as we enter the final weeks of the campaign, behind Newcastle and Liverpool.

The Gunners tend to suffer from injuries more than most other teams and since we started tracking injuries around five years ago, Arsene Wenger’s men have an average finishing spot of second.

So, third is something of an improvement, even if it doesn’t feel like it while we wait for Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech to return while wondering if Jack Wilshere will ever kick a football again.

Newcastle have had an absolutely awful season on the injury front and it’s not the first time either.

They topped the table in the 12/13 season, but even that year they only amassed 274 points for the season whereas this year they have 360 already.

360 is a crazy number.

In 13/14 Arsenal won the Injury League with 289 points.

In 14/15 Newcastle again were the winners, but even then they only managed 347.

Arsenal finished fifth last season with ‘just’ 227 (they have 219 this season).

Liverpool have been slowly creeping up the table over the past few seasons.

In 10/11 they had 126, then a dip to 95 in 11/12. This was followed by 133 in 12/13, 157 in 13/14 and 216 in 14/15.

This season? 247 already and we’re only at the start of April.

Something certainly seems up at Anfield.

Arsenal’s numbers since the 10/11 season read like this – 230, 272, 206, 289, 227, 219 (current).
