Arsenal Ladies forward Danielle Carter has been nominated for the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year Award.

Although Danielle is a senior player at Arsenal Ladies after about six seasons in the first team, she is nominated because as per the PFA rules:

‘The cut-off age for the PFA Young Player of the Year award is 23 years old or under as at the beginning of the season (1st July 2015).’

The other nominees are Bethany Mead from Sunderland Women, who had a great season finishing the top goalscorer in the league, Hannah Blundell the Chelsea full-back who was ever present in their double winning season, Keira Walsh the 18-year-old playmaker from Manchester City and Nikita Parris the forward from Manchester City.

Mead should be the favourite for her outstanding first season in the top flight and her goalscoring prowess and, at 20, she definitely fits the concept of a young player. Carter, Parris and Blundell are all two or three years older.

The players nominated for the Women’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year Award are Bethany Mead from Sunderland Women, Gemma Davison the Chelsea Ladies and former Arsenal tricky winger, Hedvig Lindhal the Swedish Chelsea Ladies goalkeeper, Ji So-Yun the Korean Chelsea Ladies playmaker and Isobel Christiansen the Man City Women midfielder.

Christiansen or Mead will surely win the award as the other three players are all Chelsea and will have the votes split between them after a successful double-winning campaign.
