After a long wait, Samuel Chukwueze is finally set to move to London and start training with his new Arsenal teammates.

The 16-year-old Nigerian striker reportedly agreed to sign for the Gunners at the end of January, along with international teammate Kelechi Nwakali. However, while Nwakali has been seen around the training ground ahead of a summer move, there has been no update on Chukwueze.

Now we know why.

It seems that Diamond Academy president, Martin Apugo, had hoped to block the transfer and send Chukwueze elsewhere but his attempts have failed as the striker insisted he would be signing for the Gunners.

“Chukwueze is still joining Arsenal, he will travel any moment from now to start training with them,” Apugo told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“I didn’t want him to go to Arsenal, wanted him to go somewhere else but he said he’ll be happy if he goes to Arsenal.”

Chukwueze caught the eye at the 2015 u17 World Cup, where he won the Bronze Shoe as Nigeria went on to win the competition. That side was captained by Nwakali, so the prospect of seeing both players at Arsenal in the future is exciting.

Maybe we could even catch a glimpse of the pair in pre-season but, otherwise, Arsenal fans will have to wait a little while to watch the duo in action. With a number of youth recruits hopeful of making the Arsenal first team in the near future, it could be a good time to support the Gunners.
