Named in the PFA Team of the Year, Héctor Bellerín has thanked those who voted for giving him credit for a great season.

It’s his first season as first choice right-back at Arsenal and to be named in the team of the year by his fellow professionals at the age of 20 is an incredible achievement.

The team was announced on Thursday and Bellerín celebrated by helping Arsenal win all three points against West Bromwich Albion in a superb individual performance.

“Having the recognition of players, managers and football professionals is a great thing,” the Arsenal defender said after the defeat of West Brom.

“I feel very proud about the award. That said, I could have never managed to achieve it without my team-mates. Playing for Arsenal helps because all my team-mates help you improve and stand out. I am very thankful to my team-mates.”

Bellerín broke into the Arsenal team last season at the age of 19 and has since established himself, forcing experienced international Mathieu Debuchy to look elsewhere for regular football.

There have even been links with the likes Barcelona but his feet remain on the ground.

“For a professional the second season is always the hardest. You must prove that the level you showed in your first season was not a coincidence. Also, you must keep a good level from the beginning to the end of the second season. Being awarded makes me very proud.”

It’s well deserved and a great way to cap an excellent first full season in the team. The best part is, it is just the beginning.
