When the season started, Hector Bellerin had one goal – start every game for Arsenal – and now that he’s no longer the ‘kid in the team’ he’s expecting big things from himself.

Arsenal’s speedster sat down with FourFourTwo recently to give an interview and revealed his goals for the season amongst much else.

“This season my goal has been to start every game, after last year’s breakthrough,” Hector said.

He hasn’t quite managed that feat this season, but he has started 29 of Arsenal’s 31 league games, only missing out on the first game of the season against West Ham and the match against Tottenham because of a groin strain.

Overall, he’s racked up 37 appearances in all competitions, collecting seven assists and one goal along the way.

“I’m way more confident because I’m no longer the kid in the team,” he added.

“But I don’t let anything go to my head. I’m still the same kid, trying to make his dream come true. I don’t feel like I’ve made it, whatever people tell me. I’m very demanding of myself. That will always be my mentality. It’ll be years before I think any differently. There are so many things I want to achieve and I’ve yet to do half of them.”

Only just 21, he’s not the youngest in the squad with the spotlight on him. Alex Iwobi’s emergence this season has allowed Hector to move up a rank within the squad, something that will no doubt add to his confidence.

Already linked with all the major clubs around the world, Hector has pledged his future to Arsenal.

Hopefully, he will be able to resist the calls which will come with more and more regularity as he grows further into the player we all know he is.

Hopefully.
