After beating Southampton at the King Power on Sunday, Leicester could, mathematically, win the title on May 1st when they face Manchester United, leaving Arsenal to wonder where it all went wrong.

The Foxes are now the strong favourites with the bookies after Tottenham dropped two points at Anfield. Even though Arsenal won well against Watford, they are seen to be too far away to be realistic challengers at this point.

If Tottenham win their next six games, they’d end up with a maximum 80 points. Arsenal can only get 79 at the most. Leicester already have 69 points so 11 more would end Arsenal’s dream, 12 would put an end to Tottenham’s delusions.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were all talking about how it was guaranteed that Leicester would fall away.

They didn’t. They stood up to every challenge that came their way, and while they have certainly rode their luck at times (Champions do), it’s hard to argue with their position at the top of the league.

It would be the most remarkable of all footballing stories should they claim their first ever league title in this modern era of moneyball.

Typically, Arsenal have made sure we can’t truly appreciate what Claudio Ranieri has done with his team, leaving us too wrapped up in being Nearly Men once again that we can see little else.
