Roy Hodgson has assured Jack Wilshere that he will be going to France – as long as he can prove that he’s fit enough.

Hodgson apparently made a personal call to Jack to reassure him that it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t play a single minute of club football all season, a coveted place in the squad for the Euro’s is all his.

Hardly seems fair, does it?

I know we all love to see our players on the biggest stage possible, but in what world does this make any sense?

Wilshere has begun running outside as he ramps up his return to fitness after having a metal plate inserted into his leg in September.

That’s good news.

What isn’t so good is that the plate is causing him ‘discomfort’ and might have to come out in yet another operation. If that happens, it’s bye-bye Euro dream.

I can’t see any good coming from picking a player who hasn’t played all season and who has a history of serious injury.

Surely there’s a more deserving player in the country who should be given the opportunity while Jack stays at home and concentrates getting himself fit for the club who pay his wages yet never get to use him.

Just a thought.
