Following our 2-1 defeat at home to Swansea in the Premier League on Wednesday, Arsene Wenger has urged his team to get the fans back on side.

When the final whistle blew at the Emirates, the boos rang out loud and clear for everyone to hear and although I don’t usually condone this kind of reaction, in this instance I could completely understand it.

The match was very much like our season so far; we started strong, scored an early goal and all was looking good. Joel Campbell was running the show and it actually looked like we might win a match comfortably (!). Arsenal had other ideas though and after scoring through Joel we completely went missing. We allowed the Swans back into the game and then let them grab a winner.

The final 20 minutes was some of the worst football I’ve ever seen us play and considering the price of season tickets, you can understand why many wanted to voice their opinion. Wenger didn’t necessarily help matters by subbing off our brightest player, Campbell with plenty of the match still to play.

Although Wenger claimed he ‘ignored’ the atmosphere at the Emirates, he did admit that they need to get the fans back on side.

“I don’t know (about the atmosphere),” he said.

“Let’s focus on our job and ignore that. We have to get the fans back on our side. The fans were ready to support us tonight I think. They were quite good. We faded in the game and we could see that in the last part of the game we had a lack of movement to create dangerous situations.”

Wenger’s comments actually come across as a little patronising but I’m not sure whether I’m just taking them that way because I’m still livid or whether they actually are.
