Out of the FA Cup and out of the Champions League, Arsenal quickly have to get back to winning ways on Saturday to have any chance of winning a trophy this season.

Just two of the last nine Premier League games have seen the Gunners take all three points, a horrible run which has let Leicester City go 11 points clear at the top of the table.

A goal and solid performance in Barcelona on Wednesday wasn’t enough but it was encouraging, so it’s only natural that Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger is urging his players on to take the positives into Saturday’s game at Goodison Park.

“We had a very dynamic, mobile, fluid performance. We had 20 shots on goal we had 12 shots on target at Barcelona,” the boss said to the media on Friday morning. “I believe overall our performance was positive we just want to continue to play with the same passion and drive until the end of the season now.”

That drive is needed to make up such a big gap between us and the top.

Arsenal have failed to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for six seasons now but each of the last four failed attempts has seen the team respond with a win in the following Premier League game.

“Let’s continue that record because at that moment we are even more in need of continuing that good record,” said the Frenchman. “I believe the team is up for it and will give absolutely everything to continue that record.

“We know the huge importance this game has to us. The advantage: we don’t have to overthink what we have to do, we just know the game is of a big significance and we just want to go out and perform.”

The morale must have been boosted by a solid midweek showing but there’s only one thing left to play for now and the pressure is on. No more slip ups or the season is as good as over.
