Arsene Wenger has revealed that there was actually doubt over whether Danny Welbeck would feature for Arsenal against Everton on Saturday.

The striker was involved in our 3-1 loss away to Barcelona midweek and considering he’s only recently returned to fitness after 10 months on the sideline through a knee injury, the boss wasn’t too sure if he could take another intense fixture just days later.

“We had a long uncertainty with Danny today,” Wenger said to Arsenal Player after our 2-0 win over the Toffies.

“[We wondered] If he could absorb a second game.

“I would like to give Danny credit today because it was not obvious he would play because he had some problems. Overall, he was very strong and had a good performance.”

Obviously, Danny was fine. More than fine – he scored within minutes. The goal was stunning and four goals in 10 games is a decent return. Giroud has been finding it hard to score recently and Theo Walcott has pretty much set up camp on our bench for the foreseeable future. Therefore, it’s just as well that Welbz is coming into his own and flourishing.

Saying this, if we’re to keep the ex-Manchester United man fit, he will need a rest soon and hopefully he’ll get this over the interlull.
