Joining Arsenal in September 1996, Arsène Wenger is fast approaching 20 years at the helm of our great club.

Now, after so long in charge, the Arsenal boss is the longest serving manager in all of Europe. For quite some time (until his retirement until 2013) Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge at Manchester United for longer than Wenger, but the Frenchman was also being pipped by a lesser known man.

Ronnie McFall is 69 years old, and was manager of Portadown for the past 19 years. Appointed in 1986 just six weeks after Ferguson arrived at Old Trafford, McFall has outlasted every manager in Europe until this weekend, when he resigned following a shocking cup upset. The manager was already set to leave at the end of the season, but has left with just a few months remaining.

That leaves Wenger as the longest serving manager in Europe. Soon to be Arsenal boss for 20 years, he has almost 18 years on any other Premier League head coach. A number of fans have been calling for his name for some time, others will never want to see him leave the Gunners.

Going through a rocky patch of form at the minute there are even questions around whether or not he’ll be in charge of Arsenal next season, but what he’s done for the club is beyond incredible and I suspect he has a few more years left in him yet.
