Arsene Wenger has allegedly met with Granit Xhaka’s father as he tries to convince the player to sign for Arsenal.

The Bundesliga midfielder has been the subject of speculation for a while now after impressing with Borussia Monchengladbach but Sky Sports Germany have been hammering this story hard lately and claim Arsenal are the front-runners for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Arsenal are said to be willing to pay €43m for him (£33m) and it’s a sum that his club would likely take. The club are also said to be willing to pay him €8m a season.

Of course, it’s impossible to tell how much truth there is to this story but it seems to be one with teeth.

Arsenal will be looking to recruit in midfield with the loss of Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta all likely.

Will they stump up their second highest transfer fee for the Swiss player?

One to keep an eye on, for sure, especially as the player has already admitted he would be interested in a move to Arsenal and had a little joke about what his shirt number would be at the club.
