Scoring twice to knock former club Chelsea out of the FA Cup last weekend, Romelu Lukaku is Everton’s biggest threat on Saturday afternoon.

With Arsenal constantly being told to sign a better striker some will wonder about the availability of Lukaku, who is enjoying a fantastic season on Merseyside.

“We’ve known him since he was in Belgium but, at the time, he opted to go to Chelsea,” Arsène Wenger said to the media on Friday morning. “Where I agree with you is he’s developing well, year after year he’s better. His finishing is better, his technical link with other players is better and he’s promised  a big career because that’s always a sign when a guy year after year has better numbers.

After stuttering for the Toffees last season, Lukaku has hit back this campaign and scored an incredibly impressive 25 goals in 36 matches despite the inconsistency of his teammates.

The Belgian striker has two goals and three assists in his nine appearances against the Gunners but this season has been by far his best at a professional level and Arsenal will have to be aware of the threat of a player who has caused the Gunners problems in the past. Still, we are used to facing the world’s best.

“We just played against Messi, Neymar and Suárez,” Wenger answered when asked about coping with the 22-year-old. “It’s another headache, yes. I think our defenders gain encouragement just from the defensive performance against Barcelona.”

I’m not so sure about that. A relaxed looking Barcelona scored three times against us on Wednesday, barely breaking a sweat. Lukaku plainly isn’t in the same league as those players but he is good and I’m not sure how much confidence Wednesday is supposed to have inspired.
