Arsenal and England striker Danny Welbeck trained away from the rest of the England squad on Monday and probably won’t feature in Tuesday’s game against the Netherlands.

The striker has recently just come back after 10 months out and already hit top form but both club and country are taking precautions with his fitness.

Welbeck has played more often than expected for Arsenal since his mid-February return but Arsène Wenger has confessed he has slight concerns that the striker is playing too much and a little too soon.

England boss Roy Hodgson is a huge fan of Welbeck’s and desperately wants him available for this summer’s European Championships so is agreeing to take things slowly. The striker didn’t train for some of last week and started but was substituted in Berlin on Saturday evening.

There were slight concerns as he was sat on the bench with ice on his leg, which was almost certainly just in case there was a reaction with his knee and not because of an issue.

Hodgson is set to make 10 changes on Tuesday afternoon as the Netherlands play at Wembley, with Welbeck one of the players not likely to feature at all. Theo Walcott should be given a chance for Arsenal fans who want to see one of their players play for the Three Lions but Welbeck, hopefully, isn’t going to be risked.
