Playing for France on Friday evening, Olivier Giroud scored and stunned the internet with a superb piece of skill.

With Karim Benzema not available, Giroud has a great opportunity to prove himself this week and lead the line for France in the summer when they host Euro 2016. Given a chance by Didier Deschamps on Friday, he didn’t let it slip.

Giroud started and played 73 minutes in the international friendly against the Netherlands, scoring in the first half to put France 2-0 up within 13 minutes.

A clean volley after Blaise Matuidi’s header, it’s a strike to be proud of. It wasn’t, however, Giroud’s finest moment of the match.

Time seemed to stand still as the ball went high into the air, only for Giroud to pluck it out of the air beautifully and feed it through the legs of an opposition player.

Not bad. We have all seen the striker produce fantastic moments of skill and he’s excellent at holding the ball up, but that’s a stark reminder that he is a much better player than he is often given credit for.

Laurent Koscielny also played for the French national team in the game which eventually ended 3-2 to Les Bleus. The central defender will be hoping to confirm his place in Deschamps’ starting XI ahead of the summer.
