Chuba Akpom netted for England’s u21s against Switzerland, capping of a brilliant run by Leicester’s Demarai Gray.

The young Lions couldn’t hold on to all the points, however, conceding a breakaway equaliser in the 75th minute after Akpom had given them the lead after 45.

Akpom started the game alongside Calum Chambers as the only two Arsenal players in the u21 matchday squad. Akpom was replaced after 86 minutes while Chambers played the full 90.

Here’s Akpom’s goal, but it surely the run by Gray that is the highlight of the move:

Liverpool’s Jordan Ibe was sent off in second-half injury time for picking up a second yellow. Gareth Southgate said of the incident “It was justified. There were a few bookings given in the game for players being tugged back and both incidents were similar.

“Players at this age go through peaks and troughs – he doesn’t look full of confidence at the moment but we have to try and get him to the level that we think he is capable of achieving.”

He will miss their next game which doesn’t come until September when they play Norway and Bosnia at home.
