Thomas Vermaelen has admitted that although Barcelona are favourites going into the second leg of our Champions League tie, Arsenal are capable of a comeback.

The defender, who signed for the Catalans in 2014, spoke ahead of our impending trip to Camp Nou and admitted that we’ve shown that we can cause at upset away from home in Europe before.

“We will be the favourites, but I know it’s not going to be easy against Arsenal. I think they gave us a tough time in London,” said the former Gunner.

“When I was there, we played a couple of times against Bayern Munich and we lost at home, but then we went to Bayern Munich and we had very good results, and were close to going through. So you can never say Arsenal are out, because they will always come back.”

Although I think in this instance Vermaelen is being a bit too polite considering our recent form, it’s nice to see they’ve not all publically counted us out. We’re already two goals down after a Lionel Messi brace at the Emirates and considering the La Liga giants’ run of form at home this season, I don’t see us even scoring, let alone winning. Add onto that the fact we would have to score three away goals to progress and that’s only if they fail to score more than once, and it’s not looking good.
