Out on the right wing for much of the season, Aaron Ramsey has been a little frustrated not to be consistently used in his best position.

The signing of Mohamed Elneny and links with Granit Xhaka also cast some doubt over the Welsh international’s future: will Ramsey be first choice at Arsenal next season in his favoured role?

If not, will he wonder if he’d be better off elsewhere?

A classy player, Ramsey could play for almost anyone, so says Wales and Liverpool legend Ian Rush, who could even see the Arsenal star at Barcelona.

“I think the way Barcelona play suits him. It’s no coincidence that people talk about him and Barcelona, he’s one of those that could easily play in that league,” Rush said.

“Aaron likes to get forward and score goals, and his sense of duty in midfield would be less there than it is at Arsenal. He would be a great pick if he went somewhere like that.”

Let’s hope Ramsey isn’t off to Camp Nou this summer or any other summer, Arsenal need him. He’s truly a player Arsène Wenger should look to build the midfield around but you can understand his frustration if he isn’t guaranteed to be a regular next year.

The midfielder’s form has led to some criticism this season, but Rush is having none of it.

“I think he’s a great player, fantastic. People who criticise him don’t know enough in my opinion. He’s a match winner, his energy is vital and I think he’s a big part of Arsenal’s play.”

Currently injured, Wales missed Ramsey in their 1-0 defeat to Ukraine on Monday evening. Club and country will both hope to see him back very soon.
