Reports spreading around Spanish and English media say that Arsenal are interested in Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos, and that a deal is possible.

Starting with a rumour in AS, Arsenal are supposedly hoping to seal a deal and it’s something Madrid wouldn’t stand in the way of.

As well as Luka Modrić, Mateo Kovačić and Casemiro in midfield there’s little to say that Kroos is guaranteed first-team football heading into next season, something he wouldn’t be happy with. Even Real Madrid won’t want to pay over £150k-a-week to a player who isn’t considered first choice.

Arsenal fans should be familiar with the German as he scored for Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium in consecutive seasons before his big move to Spain. As well as winning the treble at the Allianz Arena, Kroos is a World Cup winner: there’s no doubting the 26-year-old’s pedigree.

Some have suggested that the midfielder would have his heart set on joining Manchester United if he came to England, while others say former boss Pep Guardiola would be keen to link up with him again at Manchester City if Real Madrid were indeed looking to sell.

If there’s any chance of getting Kroos, Arsenal will face stiff competition and have to part ways with a lot of money.

Whether or not Kroos would suit us remains another question. The midfielder is an incredible passer of the ball, both strategically and technically, but he may be considered too slow and defensively weak to fit a role in Arsenal’s current midfield system.

Regardless, it would be an exciting signing to see us make and one we could surely make work with the right adjustments.
