Riding the crest of a wave from now until may, it seems like nothing can stop Leicester City from winning the Premier League.

Unless, of course, other sides try and stifle them, they are punished for some of their overly physical play and they pick up an injury to a key player.

Anyway, what if Claudio Ranieri’s head is turned? The former Chelsea boss could be the victim of a cruel twist of fate if rumours linking him with the Italy job saw Leicester falter near the finish line.

Current Italy manager Antonio Conte is widely reported to be close to agreeing on a deal to take over at Chelsea next season. The former Juventus head coach would take Italy through Euro 2016 this summer before moving to west London. As Conte sits in Ranieri’s old bench at Stamford Bridge, the vacant Italian job is one Ranieri would surely find hard to resist.

After such a successful season with the Foxes, he is likely to be one of the candidates. Football has a tendency to come full circle, so just imagine if Chelsea’s new appointment has a domino effect which costs Ranieri the title.

Wishful thinking, perhaps. Either way, Arsenal are likely to be up against Ranieri’s Leicester and Conte’s Chelsea next season. Hopefully, the Gunners can close an eight-point gap between themselves and Ranieri’s side before the current campaign ends, but that feels increasingly unlikely.
